My story

Most people watch the show. I've always needed to know how it's made.

Growing up, my parents worked in theaters and on TV sets, which meant I spent a lot of time backstage. I got to see the rigging, the lighting rigs, the seams holding a production together before anyone in the audience arrived. That early exposure planted something permanent in me: a need to understand what's behind any well-crafted surface. That curiosity showed up in everything. In the comics I obsessed over. The video games I played and studied. The stop motion animations I'd build with action figures, just to understand how a story could move.

That same drive carried me into an academic path in History and International Relations. I needed to answer bigger versions of the same question: how did we get here? What I found was a deep appreciation for the human narrative, the story that civilizations have been telling and retelling since the dawn of writing. My binational upbringing between the US and Brazil, and coming of age in New York, made that story personal. Growing up between cultures sharpened my sensitivity to difference, but it also revealed the universal threads that connect us across all of it.t

My path into design wasn't direct. I spent years teaching English, a career that sharpened my communication instincts and my ability to translate complex ideas for different audiences. It was through teaching designers that I first encountered the field up close, and the more I learned, the more I recognized it: this was the synthesis I had been circling my entire life.

Design brings together the visual language I fell in love with as a kid, the humanist thinking I developed through history and culture, and that lifelong compulsion to understand how things work. And then make them work better.
